In 1987, four Catholic healthcare systems joined together. Their purpose was to provide associated physicians with access to quality medical malpractice insurance. The company they created, Preferred Physicians Insurance Company (PPIC), had two goals in mind: to be a permanent and financially stable source of physician professional liability insurance and to be a constant resource for education, risk management, and consultative services. As PPIC entered its second decade of service, the company strengthened its link between coverage and caring by combining with Consolidated Catholic Casualty Risk Retention Group (CCCRRG). This amalgamation increased the number of PPIC shareholders. Combining resources enabled the company to expand its products and services to better serve Catholic healthcare systems and their associated healthcare providers. To more accurately reflect this change and the scope of products and services available, PPIC changed its name to Preferred Professional Insurance Company. Between 2000 and 2005, PPIC increased its shareholders and welcomed eight additional national healthcare systems. Today, the company boasts 19 national shareholder systems |
